The 6th Annual Fiddlers on the Trent Festival will kick off Fathers Day weekend 2008 with Fiddling's Finest |
Things get underway Thursday, after the Fish Fry with a "Youth Night" concert at the park featuring Mark Sullivan. Showcasing the wide range of up-and-coming talent, this event honors and promotes the musical traditions that are being passed through the generations. Things continue with concert and Dinner Friday night featuring Mark, in the Frankford Tourist Park.
Gaining in popularity, the Saturday morning canoe run will bring musicians and canoe enthusists together for a water-born parade. Music will fill the canal waterway as Parade Marshal, and one of the last of the living canoe legends, Kirk Wipper, leads the paddle in his 10-seat Montreal Voyager Canoe. Wipper, an Order of Canada recipient and former University of Toronto Professor, has dedicated many years to his canoeing passion. His donation of over 600 canoes from his personal collection began the Peterborough Canoe Musuem.
As the canoes dock at the Tourist Park, the fiddlers take to the pavillion for the afternoon concert of featured entertainers. There won't be a still foot in the crowd as Mark Sullivan along with Cape Ceol, and other special performers, take to the stage. As the sun sets on Saturday, the pavillion lights up for an evening dance featuring Cape Ceol and a jamboree where everyone is welcome to grab their fiddle and kick up their heels.
Rise and shine early Sunday morning for the 8:00am pancake breakfast, with fruit topping! A favorite event that is always a sell out! The fiddlers soon gather again for a jam session to kick-off the morning ecumenical service. Unlike any church service you've ever attended, the sounds of fiddle are infused between high-energy guest speakers from all denominations.

As always, all proceeds from the Fiddlers on the Trent Festival benefit the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, and is denoted by festival organizers as "Quinte West's response to World Hunger'. All donations to Foodgrains is matched by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), 4 to 1. Last year's festival raised over $20,000, and when matched by government support results in over $100,000 for world hunger!
Fiddlers on the Trent is organized by a group of committed volunteers. All entertainers either donate their talents or perform at reduced rates to contribute to the charitable efforts of this festival. Please do your part and make a generous donation, reflective of the high-caliber entertainment you enjoy on Father's Day weekend 2008.
